I was introduced to the world of photography at age 17 by my middle school art teacher; Tony Guffy. Mr. Guffy was also the High School Photography teacher. He remembered how much I was into my art work and seemed to think I would have a good eye for photography. Mr. Guffy saw something in me that, little did I know, would change my life forever. Over the next year I won awards for the school and started shooting ads for the local coffee shop and a hip clothing store in my hometown, Louisville, KY.
I earned a BA in Professional Photography in 2000 from Columbia College Chicago. Throughout college I worked as a teacher's assistant in the studio and started photo assisting in 1997 with some of the best Fashion and Lifestyle photographers in the Chicago area.
In 2002, I started a children's photography business on-the-side while I was still an assistant full time. I worked with a lot of children at my commercial photography job and really enjoyed my experience.
Early 2004 I decided to fulfill my life long dream; I made the leap and headed to NYC! There I worked as a digital archivist at an architecture firm. Inspired by the city and all the possibilities I focused on my fine art photography while living their. Finding that I missed working with children, I decided to make a change and landed here in LA in June 2005. I was fortunate enough to spend close to two years working for a children's photography business where I really learned how to run a portrait business.
Everything I learned at the portrait company was priceless and something you can't learn in school. In December 2006, I decided to go off on my own. My main focus at first was Children’s photography only but missing my love of fashion/lifestyle photography I slowly added Engagement, Weddings and Headshots and parties to the mix.
In January 2007, BMP was growing and I was ready for a teammate. I trained my husband Joe, as my second photographer. Joe is also responsible for all of BMP’s graphic design work. We think we make a great team!! Thank you for stopping by and we look forward to working with you and/or your family.
